World Doula Week Scholarship
World Doula Week begins on March 22. For obvious reasons this is a very important week for us. We are thrilled that “doula” is becoming more of a household word, when just a few years ago we found ourselves constantly having to explain our profession. But we still find ourselves in those situations from time to time which is why we have to continue to talk about our work and the overwhelming benefits that come along with hiring a doula. Benefits including shorter labors, reduced cesarean sections, fewer interventions and use of pain medication, higher successes in breastfeeding, and lower rates of postpartum mood disorders just to name a few.
The work that we do is so important to us and for this year's World Doula Week we wanted to find a way to honor our profession by helping to grow and nourish it. At the beginning of the year we spoke about our word for 2020, Invest. This includes growing our profession by finding ways to invest in it. So this year for World Doula Week we are offering not one, but two scholarships.
First Scholarship Opportunity: Current Team Member
This first scholarship will go toward helping a current Doulas of Capitol Hill team member build on their already extensive skill set. We are offering $500 to go towards a training of their choice* to better them as a doula and to offer more for our clients.
Second Scholarship Opportunity: A Minority Who Would Like to Get Into the Doula Field
Our second scholarship is reserved for a minority person who has been thinking about breaking into the doula world but hasn’t yet pulled the trigger. It is a $500 scholarship to go towards a Doula training of your choice*.
Contest Requirements
To enter for one of these two scholarships, first you must meet the requirements for whatever one you will be applying for, and next you will need to write an essay. The essay must include a segment on how this opportunity will help you to invest in your community and in yourself. We are looking for these essays to exhibit warmth, professionalism, and non-judgemental support. The essays must be Emailed to Ashley@DoualsofCapitolHill.com by March 22 with the subject line “Doula Week Essay”. Please include which of the two contests you are applying for and a photo or two we can use for publication. The winners will be announced at the end of World Doula Week. Good luck to you all and we can not wait to hear how you plan to help build and invest in our profession!
