Annie Seaman
BIO:
Annie is a DONA International certified Birth Doula and a Yoga Alliance certified 200-hour yoga teacher. After receiving a Master of Science in Global Health from Duke University, Annie studied the midwifery care model through a quality of care lens in Jakarta, Indonesia. This experience pulled Annie into birth work and after returning to the US, Annie became a DONA certified Birth Doula.
Annie believes her role as a doula is to be a calming presence of support and a source of knowledge. Annie brings her experience as a yoga teacher to her clients by incorporating breath and movement into interactions. As a doula without children, Annie brings an unobstructed perspective that centers the client’s unique reproductive story. Annie’s practice is rooted in reproductive justice which aims to dismantle systems of oppression in order to maintain personal bodily autonomy. Annie frequently works with first-time parents and has experience supporting cesarean deliveries and inductions.
Originally from Baltimore, Maryland; Annie lived in Shanghai, China and Durham, North Carolina before calling Washington, DC home. At her day job, Annie works at the Department of Health and Human Services’ Maternal and Child Health Bureau as a data analyst. On a typical weekend, you will find Annie wandering around a museum or enjoying a meal at one of DC’s amazing restaurants!
